Sowing

Sowing

Cucumber seeds are sown mostly straight into the cube. Only rarely a plug is used.

  • Watering and nutrition: wetting up the cubes with 2.5 EC and 5.4 pH.
  • Seed position in the cube and hole type: there are many hole sizes being used, but a 25 / 25 hole type works well. It is important that the seed is not too deep in the cube.
  • Covering the seed: cover the seed with vermiculite. Fill up the plug hole, and use vermiculite type 3 to make sure that there is enough oxygen around the seed.
  • Temperatures: main germination temperature is 22.5 °C. Use underfloor heating if you have it in colder conditions to keep the cube temperature around 21.5 °C. Use it only until the first tips of the roots are visible underneath the cube.
  • Humidity: approx. 75%.
